Paul’s Prayer and Doxology

에베소서 3:13-3:21 본문보기

묵상질문

Who is God like?

Vv. 14,15 He is the Father who gave everything on heaven and earth a name. He is the Creator of all beings and the Father of all things (4:6; 1Co 8:6). Kneeling and praying before him is being obedient to God, the Creator and Ruler of all things. Why don’t we pray right now, kneeling before him in humility and awe, for all the things that are happening in our lives (joyous things, sad things)?

V. 16 He strengthens our inner beings (hearts) through the Holy Spirit in accordance with his abundant glory. Not only does the Holy Spirit enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we can understand God’s abundant wisdom better, but he also strengthens our hearts so that we can conquer the temptation of sin. Rather than trying to conquer the desires of our body through our own strength, let us lean on the Holy Spirit.

Vv. 17-19 God allows the love that the saints have in their hearts through the Holy Spirit to also manifest abundantly in Christ. This love is wide enough to embrace all mankind, long enough to continue on for eternity, deep enough to reach the most depraved sinners, and high enough to raise those sinners to heaven. How well do I know and how much do I experience this love? Am I abundantly joyful because of this love today?

Vv. 20,21 God will receive glory forever through the church and through Christ. This is because he is able to give to us more abundantly than we ask for or think for ourselves. God, who raised Christ in the presence of those who killed him, will also work in my life with great strength. Since we have such a God as our Father, how could we not praise him? Let us give glory through our praises to the one who gives to us more abundantly than we pray for.
I repent for my heart that wants to be filled completely with the things of this world.
