Who is God like?
V. 3 With the bond of peace of the Holy Sprit, God brings unity to the church. God reveals to us that this unity cannot be formed through human strength, but only through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is written therefore, that we should not put our efforts into trying to achieve unity, but rather put our strength into not breaking the harmony that God already put into the church. What efforts are we making to guard our community which has been made one by the Holy Spirit?
Vv. 4-6 When he called us, he called us to one hope, one body, one spirit, one faith and one baptism. God is also one God. Therefore there is only one church. By unifying the Gentiles and the Jews as one church, he achieves his purpose of unifying all of creation (see 1:10). Let us examine whether our community is exhibiting to the world the wisdom of God to unify all created things.
Vv. 7-12 In order to guard the unity of the church, each of us has been given a gift of grace. Christ destroys the influence of Satan through his holy flesh, death on a cross, and resurrection, and gives us gifts so that we can accomplish his abundant work.
Vv. 15,16 As God is the ultimate goal of the church, he is also the source for growth. As Christ is the head of the church, in order for the church to grow, it must be connected to him. What programs and methods am I focusing on in order to build up the church? The only way to growth is to be united with the Lord, who holds all the nutrients for growth.
