What lesson is God teaching me?
Vv. 1-2 We need to model our lives like a child who is receiving God’s love. In Christ we become a new being who are created in the image of God. It is hard to follow God in our original nature of depravity, but by becoming a new creation we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. By the help of the Holy Spirit we can partake in the divine character of God (see 2Pe 1:4). Let us meditate on the word and pray that we will model our lives after God, being able to love like him and forgive like him.
Vv. 3-5 There is a lifestyle that does not match with disciples who have become new creations. A lifestyle of obscene acts (all sorts of sexual immorality), impurity, greed, dirty language, foolish talk, and coarse joking are some. As those who are made pure in Christ, we shouldn’t even mention these things on our lips. Do you claim to be a Christian but still use this kind of language? Could you say that this sort of language befits a believer? Let the words of our mouths be deeply rooted in the Lord.
Vv. 6-7 Do not be fooled by the false teachings of unbelievers. The unbelieving world generally believes that as long as their sins are not caught there won’t be a problem. They believe that not even God can see their sins. Do not associate with this kind of world. This does not mean to never have any association with unbelievers, but it means to not partake in the same actions as them.
Lord, help me to model my life after you so that in every moment I may practice love in your love.
