What is the lesson that God is teaching me?
Verses 1-3- As soon as Paul arrives in Thessalonica he goes to a synagogue where he will be able to meet Jews. When he got there he used the Old Testament scriptures to explain the meaning of the cross and resurrection to the Jews who talk of the glorious kingship of the Christ and yet deny the truth of the suffering. He did this just as how Jesus did to the two disciples that were on the road to Emmaus. Paul basically told them that Jesus was the Messiah that was promised in the Old Testament. Is your message also about the cross of Christ and that the only way to enjoy glory is to chase after that same life on the cross?
Verses 10, 11- The people of Berea listened to the word with open hearts, and to check and see if the things that Paul taught on was true, they meditated on the word every day. This is a sharp contrast between the Bereans who looked at the Scriptures to see what was right and proper and the Jews in Thessalonica who only focused on understanding what was real. The result of this was that many people came to believe. There is no greater authority than what is found in Scripture. Just as how any sermon, interpretation, meditation and materials must be checked in light of the Scriptures, our heart must also be opened to receive it. If you believe and confess that the Scripture is the word of life, then how much of your time and energy are you really pouring out to meditate on the word? Are you trying to actively meditate and practice in your life all the Scripture or are you being passive and are only hearing about it?
I pray that while I meditate on your word, you would reveal you will and that I will be able to obey you, Lord.
