The End for Judah
Judgment against Oholibah (Jerusalem) is declared because of her lewd sin. God will desert Jerusalem and Babylon will attack it, so it will meet a humiliating end. The text can be separated into four parts (vv. 22, 28, 32, 35).

Who is God like?
Verses 22-26- The husband judges Oholibah by using governors. Those who are now attacking Oholibah once had a deep relationship with her, and were people from Babylon and Assyria (v. 23). Through God’s righteousness, the people were mobilized. They were people from Pekod, Shoa, Koa, which were places on the eastern border of the Babylonian Empire. A cruel massacre is being prophesized, but the person in control of all of this is the Lord God (vv. 22, 25). God was thoroughly judging the spiritual adultery that Judah committed through idolatry. God wants His people to love Him alone and trust in Him completely. Let us meditate on God’s holiness that desires for us to turn away from our sins (v. 26).
Verse 27- God teaches them through discipline. God thoroughly disciplines Judah and stops them from continuing their sin of idolatry. He will completely erase the idols they worshipped from their hearts. Through discipline, He gets rid of our sin so that we have faith in God alone and only follow Him. Our faith is becoming more mature through God’s discipline.

What lesson is God teaching me?
Verses 28-30- Jerusalem will be destroyed at the hands of Babylon (v. 28). God will use Babylon as a tool and judge Judah for following foreign nations and worshipping their gods. Know that the things you enjoy in life can someday lead you to your destruction.
