A Lament for the King of Tyre
The lament that Ezekiel sang for the king of Tyre speaks about how he was perfect in the past, how he became prideful because of his abundance now, and the judgment that will come on him in the future because of his present actions.
Who is God like?
Verses 15, 16- He kicks out the unjust people from His garden. The king of Tyre received praise for his grandeur and was considered nobility, but as his work becomes busier, he would use violence and fall into the habit of cheating to make a profit. This kind of person can no longer live on the mountain of the holy God. Those who dwell in the confidence of the Lord act in honesty and work justly (Ps 15:2). God delights in the person who has a clean offering than in those who give a large offering. Can God delight in you, and can you walk in the way of holiness? Let us check to see if we bought or sold things unjustly for our own gain, and even if we did so unknowingly, let us quickly repent.
Verses 22, 23- He reveals his holiness through His judgment, and lets people know who He really is. Rich, wealthy, and powerful nations like Tyre and Sidon did not acknowledge God. He could not care less about His ways and acted unjustly. God says that through His judgment, they will see how just God is. There is no greater work than knowing God. Instead of getting to know God through His discipline, let us focus on the Word so that by meditating on it we can have a deeper relationship with Him.
Verses 24, 26- He judges all the nations that belittle Israel and stops them from hurting His people. The promise given to Abraham, “I will curse those who curse you,” (Ge 12:3) is still in effect today. Is there someone who is hurting you? Remember that God is on your side and persevere. God will clear things up at the proper time.
I hope that God’s holiness is revealed not through judgment, but through blessings upon me.
