A Lament for the Pharaoh
As the prophecy against Egypt continues, in chapter 32, we see a lament regarding the fall of the king of Egypt (vv. 1-16) and his descendents (vv. 17-32). The lament for pharaoh starts with, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says” (vv. 1, 2, 3-10, 11-16).

Who is God like?
Verses 2-8- He thoroughly judges pharaoh, who was so arrogant that he thought himself to be a lion or a monster in the sea. God will mobilize countless people and have them bring judgment on pharaoh (19:8). The dead body will be like a great tree that has fallen (31:13), and will become food and shelter for wild beasts and birds. It tells us that the allied armies will attack Egypt and will fall. Also, that before the dead bodies hit the ground wild beasts will come and tear them apart. God pours out His mercy on the people that confess their sins, but to those who do not turn back from sin and arrogance he brings about His fierce judgment.
Verses 9-16- God’s judgment against Egypt was comprehensive and thorough and fell on the people, the national defense, and the economy. On the night of the Passover, when God brought His judgment on Egypt, only the firstborn of humans and animals died (Ex 12:29). Here, however, all animals and all people will die in that land. Egypt will once again acknowledge God’s sovereignty as He wields His sword of judgment against them. During this time, they will sing a lament for Egypt, and God’s commands will be carried out (verse 16). Think what would happen if this lament were being sung for you and your country. If you are just waiting for that day, don’t you think that you seriously need to repent?
