The Start of a Prophecy against Gog
The things that happen in chapters 38 and 39 are similar to what is recorded in Revelation 20 and the fight in Armageddon. They also symbolize what will happen in the fight on the final day.
Who is God like?
Verses 3, 4- He turns around Gog, who was called the chief prince of Meshech, and Tubal and bring out His large army of warhorses, horsemen, and great horde with shields and swords. In chapters 38 and 39, the “Sovereign Lord” is written 15 times, and this shows that it is God who subdues the kings of the world and governs over all things. God opposed Gog, and even though they were armed to the teeth the army would only be met with defeat. Let us remember that when we battle against Satan, God becomes our captain and helps us.
Verses 15, 16, 23- To achieve His goal, God uses evil people and nations as tools. Gog is not just one person or one nation, but will be many people from a distant northern land. God allowed them to advance against Israel. This was so that people or unbelieving nations can come to know God. Let us remember that when Satan moves around busily, God also moves to have His good will come about.
What lesson is God teaching me?
Verses 9- The enemies will advance like a storm and cover the land like a cloud. When we look at this, it seems like there can be no escape. The influence of Satan is great. Even now he is like a lion searching for his prey. There might be a difference in the size of the battle we go through according to the difference in generations. But substance of the battle itself is the same. What is it that you must fight against today as a Christian?
Lord, wherever I go and face my enemies, help me to always trust in You.
