Victory
God can defeat any enemy in an instant, no matter how great and organized, strong and well armed that enemy is. Even if God’s people have nothing and their resources seem trivial, God can overpower their enemies and bring them victory.
Who is God like?
Verses 1, 2- God stands against the enemies of Israel. The hand of God will destroy the power of the enemies that seem insurmountable. This shows us the salvation that we will receive in the future (Rev 20:7-10).
Verses 3, 9, 10- God will make the enemies drop their bows and arrows. Israel just needs to take delight in the victory that God has brought it, and clean up the ruined areas of its enemies. The enemies had so many weapons that they gathered enough to be firewood for seven years. But God had these weapons fall at once. At times it seems that Satan’s power is strong in this generation. But let us remember the picture that is painted here.
Verses 6b, 7- When God judges the evil enemies, Israel as well as unbelieving nations will all know that God is “the Holy One”. If Christians allow sin, non-believers cannot be brought to God. God is holy and wants us to live holy lives. When Christians live holy lives, non-believers will see God as “the Holy One”. They will be challenged to become children of God.
Verses 4, 9-20- God’s judgment is complete and thorough. Gog and his army will be eaten by birds and animals, or buried at the Valley of Hamon Gog. Israel’s land will be made completely clean. If even one bone is found, it will be moved outside of Israel (v. 15). Verses 17-20 show us a picture of the complete destruction of Israel’s enemies, as birds and beasts feast on them like a sacrifice.
I am thankful for Your victory over evil. Help me to be prepared for judgment day.
