The Distinguished Lives of Christians

Christians are inevitable to live in this world alongside those who do not believe. Therefore, the lifestyle that is required of a Christian is not a detached life with non-believers, but a distinguished life.

Thinking & Understanding
Paul tells the believers not to be yoked (bound together) with unbelievers. He goes further and makes five comparisons to emphasize this point: righteousness/lawlessness, light/darkness, Christ/Belial, believer/unbeliever, and temple of God/idols. When Paul says, “Do not be yoked with unbelievers,” it does not mean that Christians should not even associate with unbelievers. It means that we should avoid the things unbelievers do that can make our bodies and our souls unclean and damage our faith – things such as worshiping idols and living sexual and greedy lives (6:14 - 7:1).

What Lesson is God Teaching Me?
When everything is unclean, the only strength that can keep us clean is the fear of God (7:1). Fear God every moment of the day, so that we can be perfected in holiness.

Tip 1
6:14–7:1 Paul’s call for Church discipline as an expression of repentance. This section brings Paul’s argument in 2:14–7:1 to its culmination by giving the second, concrete application of what it will mean for the Corinthians to “widen [their] hearts” toward Paul amid the current controversy in Corinth.

Tip 2
6:15 Belial. This name for Satan is not found elsewhere in the OT or NT but was used in the Judaism of Paul’s day. Derived from one of Satan’s characteristics (Dt 13:13), it was often used in contexts that stress Satan’s activity as an opponent of God, which fits Paul’s concern with his opponents.

기도

Lord, help me be aware of God who is always watching every second of every day.
