에스겔 23:1-23:21 본문보기
The Sin of Samaria and Jerusalem
Sin is compared to the obscene act of the sisters Oholah (Samaria) and Oholibah (Jerusalem). The sin of Israel and Judah is talked about as they have made alliances with political powers such as Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon.
Who is God like?
Verses 9, 10- God brings humiliation upon those who make things into gods, trusting and finding joy in them. Israel died at the hands of its lover Assyria, and its sons and daughters will be humiliated and dragged away. If there is something that we love and rely on more than God, we must get rid of it. Who are you seeking love from? Stay forever in the arms of our unchanging God.
What lesson is God teaching me?
Verses 5-7- Samaria voluntary commits lewd acts with its lover Assyria (governor, commander, mounted horsemen, warriors). Assyria’s strong army and luxury impressed Israel, so it made an alliance with them and began worshipping their idols. Israel’s adultery was more than just political. By allying with Assyria, it left the great Lord. Do you trust money or power more than God?
Verse 8- Oholah could not break the bad habit she had since she was in Egypt. Even though they were the chosen people of God, the Israelites did not leave their sin of idolatry. Even though they experienced God’s amazing love, the people could not break the habit of idolatry and fell into destruction. Are you still committing the same sinful habits you did before God even though you are now dwelling in grace?
Lord, help me to not love or follow anything more than I do You.
